IDP AT A GLANCE
Overview
IDP Education is a global leader in the placement of
international students. We are:
- The world’s largest student placement firm
- A driver of significant market research
- A partner in the IELTS English language proficiency test.
Our Roots
IDP Education was established in 1969 as an aid body funded by
the Australian government to strengthen teaching and research in
South Asia institutions. By 1984, the aid programme had expanded to
include the South Pacific, and became the International Development
Programme (IDP) of Australian Universities and Colleges. Since
then, we have grown into an organisation with three major business
arms:
- International student recruitment
- English language testing
- English language teaching
We have also developed and manage one of the world’s
second largest international education conferences, the
Australian International Education Conference (AIEC).
IDP Today
We have more than 1,000 people in the team, including 500
counsellors and we have more than 70 student counselling centres in
over 25 countries. With our roots being in Australia, one out
of every four international students in an Australian higher
education programme has been placed by IDP. We have now expanded
into a multi-destination student placement firm, where we
will are capitalising on the experience and success of our
Australian operation.
Market Research
IDP Education is a major sponsor of research into international
education, and we have pioneered the forecasting of international
student trends and growth. We sponsor the Database of Research on
International Education. We make this available free of charge as a
contribution to your work but please note there may be a charge to
download some of the external content.
In 1987 we founded the Australian International Education
Conference (AIEC), which has grown to become a major event on the
international education calendar. This event is co-sponsored by the
International Education Association of Australia and is
a platform for us to launch our most recent research and an
opportunity for colleagues in the sector to share good
practice.
